The most common symptoms of mesothelioma are difficulty breathing and chest pain. Other symptoms include:

- Trouble swallowing
- Hoarseness

- Loss of appetite
- Fatigue
- Weight loss
- Night sweats
- Irregular heart rhythm

Unfortunately, mesothelioma is often untreated and undiagnosed during a critical period. Many people with mesothelioma have symptoms for at least a few months before they are finally diagnosed. The most critical step in increasing a person’s survival rate is to diagnose and treat mesothelioma in its early stages.
While many companies have stopped using asbestos related products, symptoms of mesothelioma typically develop within 20 to 25 years after exposure and can take as long as 50 years. Roughly 3,000 to 4,000 cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed each year. The average life expectancy for mesothelioma patients is 12 to 22 months.
